Fluminense Takes Copa Libertadores for Brazil

Published on: 23/11/2023

The Copa Libertadores de América, or CONMEBOL Libertadores, held its final in Brazil on November 4, 2023. The game pitted two rivals against each other, the Brazilian team Fluminense and the Argentine favorite, Boca Juniors. Though both teams were at the top of their game, Fluminense narrowly took the cup in a 2 to 1 final score that did not go into overtime. The team perhaps enjoyed a home field advantage as the game was played in Rio de Janeiro at the iconic Maracan? Stadium.

Betsson’s Involvement in Copa Libertadores

Ahead of the intense match up, Betsson announced its involvement in the final game. It joined a partnership with CONMEBOL in order to secure exclusive broadcasts for registered soccer fans viewing the game live from home or from organized public events.

Betsson is already the primary sponsor of Boca Juniors, one of Argentina’s most beloved soccer teams. On the ground in Buenos Aires ahead of the match, hundreds of soccer fans were seen touting their yellow and blue jerseys and getting ready to support their team at a variety of events, though the big event itself took place about 1221 miles away in Brazil.

Boca Juniors attempted to claim its seventh Copa Libertadores title. Despite fervent fan support and the backing of Betsson, the team did not fulfill its dream at Maracan? that evening. They were beaten by Fluminense, a Brazilian team that also boasts an exceptionally long history, having been formed in 1902.

Boca, which is also called Xeneize — or Genoese — by fans thanks to its founding by five Italian immigrants, one of the largest migratory groups in Argentina’s history, gave a strong fight. Key sponsor Betsson also made its presence known at the match thanks to its deal for the final.

Part of that presence was a fully integrated viewing and betting experience for registered users of Betsson’s platform. Betsson now operates with an official Argentine web platform, notable by its “.ar” URL. At www.betsson.bet.ar, viewers were able to not only watch the game live but also to bet alongside viewing.

The website is also notable for its accessibility not only on desktop devices but also on mobile phones and tablets. That meant that those millions of fans not able to view the game in Rio de Janeiro would be able to still have a stunning experience from home — or anywhere.

There was also one other caveat to accessing the game. Since Betsson’s platform is still considered primarily a betting platform and not only a live-streaming one, viewers had to also make a deposit into the platform. This is standard for new users of any betting website, though perhaps seemed strange for those only interested in watching the game.

In this way, it is clear that Betsson’s offering is more geared towards actual sports bettors. Still, there were many people in this category. Those who took advantage of betting on the final could also access some special deals via Betsson. Boca Juniors fans were able to access a x20 multiplier for their first bets on the platform.

All fans — not only those of Boca — were able to also receive exclusive promotional deals and access to raffles for the final of this historic tournament. Boca fans, however, are special for their superstitions around the team. The group is obsessed with the number seven, not only for the number of titles it hoped to receive at the final.

Betsson has seven letters, and the company originated in Sweden, whose flag has the same colors as the Boca jersey. All of these are signs of good luck, according to fans. Maximiliano Bellio, Argentina’s country team manager, said he shares the fans’ sentiments.

Betsson also got in on the fun with a campaign leading up to the final, where it altered its branding for seven days to honor Boca Juniors. Sportingbet and Betano were also involved in the cup final, with Sportingbet being CONMEBOL’s official sponsor. Betano is Fluminense’s main sponsor.
